We have an opening in the Engineering Directorate/Computation Engineering Division for a faculty member to engage in a collaborative research and work-study assignment of mutual interest to further their teaching or research goals. The candidate will teach a statistics course at the interface between mathematical modeling via computer simulation, computer model meta-modeling (i.e., emulation/surrogate modeling), calibration of computer models to data from field experiments, and model-based sequential design and optimization under uncertainty.
-Faculty member will work with the Data Science Summer Institute (DSSI). The DSSI offers data science graduate and undergraduate students a summer internship opportunity that applies machine learning, statistics, and high-performance computing to real-world problems. Interns work on activities related to a broad spectrum of topics in data science and technically relevant to LLNL’s national security mission.
-Under limited direction, will participate as an instructor in the DSSI teaching a course on Design and Analysis of Computer Experiments.
-Interact with Laboratory Staff working in the areas related to data science and its applications.
-Interact with DSSI interns.
-Participate in activities as appropriate to provide exposure to the Laboratory Scholar Engagement and Education Program (SEEP).
-Perform other duties as assigned.
-Must be a faculty or teacher affiliated at an accredited institution.
-Active in the research area of Analysis of Computer Experiments.
-Computational skills to include writing R packages.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-Ability to work in a team environment.
-PhD in Statistics

Note: This is a Temporary Faculty Scholar appointment with the possibility of extension. This assignment is typically a full-time position during the summer academic break.
